I guess the holidays have finally gotten to me... it's that time of year. Everywhere I look I see red, literally. It's bright, happy, poppy red to be exact... and I love it!
I first became aware of Eric Kass' work when I saw the beautiful typography of the Linnea's Bamboo candle packaging. And I still love it. His work is just amazing! I love the way he seamlessly transitions from print to web. It's a natural extension of the brand and not an after thought. Here are a few examples and you can see more of his work on his website.

I hate to drone on and on about art. I've never been one the pontificate on that subject. I either love it or I don't (needless to say I wasn't a big contributor in my art school critiques). Anyway, I really love the work of New York based painter and mixed media artist Jennifer Sanchez. You can see more of her lovely work on her website.

I absolutely love this custom CD case design by ACDSleeve! I adore the hand-lettering and illustrations by Mister Millerchip, but what really makes this so unique is the pop-up design. Each case is litho printed, matte laminated and then die cut/creased and hand assembled. Perhaps then, it's no surprise that these cases are made to order for a limited time. You can see more here or by visiting the ACDSleeve website.
This week's Friday photo is not just one photo but several... I couldn't pick just one of Sharon Montrose' awesome animal portraits. The beauty and spirit of each animal are captured so breathtakingly. I'm dying for a large scale portrait of the giraffe like those in the last image (yep, kinda got a thing for giraffes)...

And don't miss this great behind the scenes video about Sharon's work and the process of photographing the animals...
This week's Tuesday Type is another beauty from Sudtipos type foundry. It has an insane amount of alternates, ligatures, and swashes... insane, I tell you! Even with the $89 price tag you get a lot of bang for your buck, so to speak. Check it out for yourself, here.
Still totally swamped with work right now due to the holiday rush and other projects... however as I was browsing the Spring 2011 collections (via here) I happened upon Paul & Joe. This collection brought a smile to my face! It's so fresh and pretty... but most of all I LOVE the pantsuits! Kinda like Gucci in the late 90's but without all the "I'm-gonna-stab-you-in-the-eye" attitude... Swoon!

Technically, black is a shade rather than a color. I know this so please don't feel free to educate me. Merriam-Webster defines black as: "The achromatic color of least lightness characteristically perceived to belong to objects that neither reflect nor transmit light". This is a post about the beauty of black... So here you are!

This week's Tuesday Type is trés cool and it's called Horst! It was inspired by Laatzen’s Bilderbogen etchings by the extraordinary artist and printmaker Horst Janssen. It has a fabulous unique look in part due to the automatic discretionary ligatures and the two extra stylistic sets. A great typeface for posters, invitations, etc. And a great value to at only $29 for the complete set.

In this new feature, I will be presenting artists from around the world. This week I am loving the work of illustrator and painter Anthony Freda, who I discovered via ShareSomeCandy. It is not only beautiful to look at but has a deeper, often political, message that is truly spot on. For more examples of his work or to purchase his prints check out his website.
