Tuesday Type: Forza

I know this week's Tuesday Type won't get most of you all that excited but it gets me excited. This week's typeface is Forza by Hoefler & Frere-Jones.  It was originally commissioned by Wired magazine to compliment Vitesse (a slab serif).  I just love Forza's clean but expressive lines, not typical of a square sans serif.  I can think of many uses for Forza such as magazine, corporate, stationery, and packaging.

Design Crush: Eight Hour Day

I recently came across the work of Minneapolis based design studio Eight Hour Day through this fabulous wedding invitation suite. Everything is so bright and refreshing! I love the typography as well.

However in looking through their portfolio I became equally smitten with their branding and identity work.  I'm a pattern girl so these identity suites are right up my alley... just awesome!

Friday Foto: Week #4

A few months back I came across these amazing COLOR photos taken in Russia around 1910. Photographer Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii used a specialized camera to capture three black and white images in fairly quick succession.  He used red, green and blue filters, allowing them to later be recombined and projected with filtered lanterns to show near true color images.  Hundreds of these images are now part of the collection of the Library of Congress.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Gotta love this cheeky version of the ubiquitous "Keep Calm and Carry On" poster.  So cute!  You can print your very own just in time for Thanksgiving... available from Craftily Ever After.  Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

Tuesday Type: Buttermilk

I love Buttermilk!  The typeface that is... not a big fan of the lumpy dairy beverage.  Jessica Hische is one of my all time favorite designers and illustrators.  Her work is always superb and Buttermilk is no exception!

As Jessica says:
"It's (as you can see) a bold script that would be just perfect for magazine headlines, book title type, holiday cards, initial caps, you name it.  There are some pretty stellar numerals and a huge array of ligatures to help you set it beautifully and easily."

I couldn't agree more (plus, check out the ampersand... Eeeee!).  Yep, lovely work Ms. Hische!  Available to purchase directly from Jessica's online store or Myfonts.com.

Light-filled Workspaces...

As a designer, I spend a lot of time in my workspace.  And I mean A LOT.  So I'm always interested in how other people choose to decorate their space - mine looks most like Victoria Smith's cozy space  just below (except not nearly as tidy). I think what these all have in common is that they are all light-filled  regardless of size.  Well without further ado, here is a collection of some of my favorite workspaces - from cozy to spacious.  So what's your workspace style?

Friday Foto: Week #3

I just love the amazing light in these photos of the Golden Gate Bridge.
The bridge is always a welcoming site... I never tire of it's beauty.
Happy Friday, everyone!

Color Crazy: Yellow

I don't know about you but I'm not really ready for winter to come.  I've been sort of day-dreaming about summer and longing for the warmth of the sun on my face.  Well, I guess I'll have to settle for a little sunshine yellow inspiration.  Hope this adds a little sunshine to your day!

Lust List: Mad Sofa Styles

Okay, confession time... I haven't really been able to get into the story line of Mad Men yet, BUT I love watching for the set decoration.  I just adore mid-century modern design!  Over the last few years I've been adding vintage pieces gradually for a more eclectic look. Lately I've been shopping around for a new sofa and I turned up these beauties... So, what do you think of these pieces?

Tuesday Type: Adios Script

image: Veer

Asking myself to choose one script typeface out of thousands was kind of a dumb thing... You see I love script fonts.  I spent the better part of last night trying to choose just one.  However,  I kept coming back to Adios Script by Sudtipos again and again.   It is  incredibly elegant and romantic yet has a wonderful human feel due to the huge variety of ornate letterforms.  This is what makes it so much fun to play with as a designer!  It's wonderful choice for wedding invitations, personal stationery, etc.  What's your favorite script typeface?

Sequins, sequins, sequins!

The fashion world has gone a little sequin crazy lately... here's the proof!  But is it too much? Obviously, no sane person would wear all these pieces together...   So, what do you think of this trend?

Friday Foto: Week #2

Swooning over these photos of the lovely and talented Grace Kelly. The photos were taken for Colliers magazine in 1955 while Grace was vacationing in Jamaica with her sister (and photographer Howell Conant).
