Art Work: Heath Killen

images: Heath Killen

Love this series from Australian graphic designer, Heath Killen. It's titled "Ordinary Flora". Something about it really speaks to me. Perhaps it's the bold use of polka dots, pink, and half-tone patterns. Reminds me a bit of Sigmar Polke.

Font Friday: P22 Allyson

Perhaps it was staying up WAY too late watching the royal wedding of William and Kate, but I was inspired to choose a typeface that had a royal look for Font Friday. And I bring you P22 Allyson! It's been around for a while but it recently caught my eye again and now I love it. It's so graceful and elegant without all the over-the-top swashes. At only $29.95 it's an awesome deal. You can get it right here.

Please welcome our newest Font Friday friend, Alison Owen! Be sure to check out her lovely blog and font picks! And be sure to check out Lauren Elise Crafted, Hank & Hunt, Little Bit Heart, Fourth & Folded, Aerialist Press, Palm Papers and Blush Printables for more font goodness!

Package Perfect: Tokyo Milk

Who wouldn't want to take a soak in "Skull With Roses" bubble bath?
Love the white on black... so simple and chic.

I just recently came across this amazing line called Tokyo Milk by Margot Elena and I am in love with the packaging! I am such a sucker for anything vintage with a little edge to it. I've never seen it in the store so I have no idea if the products work or even smell good.  Though I suspect if they put as much care into their ingredients as they with did the design, they are awesome. Take a look at the  website it's lovely too!

Font Friday: Parfait

images: MyFonts.com

Among the super swirly girlie script typefaces, Parfait ranks near the top for me. It is so beautiful! Not to mention the care and skill that went into crafting the over 850 glyphs! And considering the price is only $57 for the complete font package, that's an amazing 7 cents per glyph! You can purchase it here.

....................................................................................................................

So this week we're having a little design contest for our fabulous Twitter #FontFriday group. We are voting for a badge that we can all put on our blogs to show our love for the group. Below are my two entries...

option #1 ....or.... option #2

And be sure to check out Lauren Elise Crafted, Hank & Hunt, Little Bit Heart, Fourth & Folded, Aerialist Press, Palm Papers and Blush Printables for more font goodness!

Font Friday: Perla

I'm such a sucker for a good unicase font such as Perla. It's as if it was made for fashion magazines... so stylized and elegant. And look and that lowercase "x"! Not to mention the ampersand - sexy! It's also available in a outline and alternate variants that are on my wishlist. Check out the entire Perla font family here.

We have a new member of the Font Friday posse and her name is Lauren from Palm Papers.  Lauren and I met through Minted and recently I helped her set up her website/blog. She has excellent taste in fonts! And be sure to check out Lauren Elise Crafted, Hank & Hunt, Little Bit Heart, Fourth & Folded, Aerialist Press, and Blush Printables (#FontFriday on Twitter) for more font goodness!

Color Inspiration 12

I can't look at this photo of Julianne Moore and not be amazed at how stunning she is for a 50 year old (and for any age, really)! Oh sure, she has access to the best skincare money can buy but she also says staying out of the sun her whole life has helped. Heed her warning: "Stay out of the sun!"

Oh yeah, and the jewel tones in the photo are beautiful!

Fashion Fix: Tory Burch - Spring 2011

The Tory Burch Spring 2011 RTW Collection is just gorgeous! A few of my personal favorites... love the bright orange paired with neutral leather and gold accents. The barely there blush pink and tomato red combo are kinda rockin my world too.

Monday Moments : Be Someone.

I came across this quote from Coco Chanel this weekend and loved it some much I had to share it with you. It's so amazingly true! We can get so caught up in "being something" we lose sight of who we are, our place in the world, and what makes us happy.

Happy Monday!

Flocktastic!

Love this packaging design for the 4th Annual Hatch Design Egg Coloring Contest! There are some really fun entries so why not submit your own egg or just vote on others? Such a cute idea!

Font Friday: Sweet® Sans

So let's face it sans serifs and even serifs (basically any non-script typefaces) are not the most exciting topics for discussion. But then there's Sweet Sans by MVB Fonts. And I am totally smitten! There is something so yummy about it but I can't quite put my finger on it. It's legible and simple and yet not boring at all.

Here is what MVB Fonts has to say about Sweet Sans:
The family is based on antique engraver’s lettering templates called “masterplates.” Professional stationers use a pantograph to manually transfer letters from these masterplates to a piece of copper or steel that is then etched to serve as a plate or die. This demanding technique is rare today given that most engravers now use a photographic process to make plates, where just about any font will do. But the lettering styles engravers popularized during the first half of the twentieth century—especially the engraver’s sans—are still quite familiar and appealing.
Referencing various masterplates—which typically offer the alphabet, figures, an ampersand, and little else—Mark van Bronkhorst has drawn a comprehensive toolkit of nine weights, each offering upper- and lowercase forms, small caps, true italics, arbitrary fractions, and various figure sets designed to harmonize with text, small caps, and all-caps. The fonts are available as basic, “Standard” character sets, and as “Pro” character sets offering a variety of typographic features and full support for Western and Central European languages.
Though rich in history, Sweet Sans is made for contemporary use. It is a handsome and functional tribute to the spirit of unsung craftsmanship."

At the moment this lovely is still on my wishlist... there are so many varients I don't know how to choose! What do you think: Light or Regular? Which would you get?

Happy #FontFriday everyone! Be sure to check out Lauren Elise Crafted, Hank & Hunt, Little Bit Heart, Fourth & Folded, Aerialist Press, and Blush Printables for more font fun!
