Fresh Fashion #3

I am obsessed with this outfit. This is basically my uniform except with way better pieces. I might swap out the black leggings for skinny jeans but otherwise love it. I'm especially loving that denim shirt. OMG, can tell you how I rocked the denim shirt in the 90's?! Probably swore I would never again but this has me thinking...

Font Friday: Duke

This week's Font Friday pick is named Duke and it's from the fabulous Lost Type Co-op! Duke was designed by James T. Edmondson and was based on the signage for the Cup and Saucer Luncheonette in New York.  Duke features three layers: Fill, Shadow, and Fill+Shadow. And if that was not enough, the price is really nice too... FREE! The Lost Type Collective released four new typefaces this week and Duke is just one of the lovelies... check them all out here!

Color Inspiration 15

Wow, it's been quite a white since I have done a color inspiration board... yikes! What got me off my bum to do this one? Well, I recently came across the work of artist Stina Persson and was immediately taken with her use of color. Amazing work... especially love her watercolors. You definitely need to check out her website!

Quick Trip: Theresa Himmer

It's no secret that I'm a fan of sequins, so it'll be no surprise when I say I let out a little squeal of excitement when I saw these amazing outdoor art installations in Iceland by artist Theresa Himmer. So many great possibilities... can't wait to seem more!

Font Friday: Steinweiss Script

If you've been following the blog you might have noticed that the posting has been sparse lately... for that I apologize. I hurt my back about two weeks ago and it's been painful to sit at my desk for any period of time (hi-lighting the need for a laptop!!). Anyway, it's feeling better so I am back - pun intended!

Now on to this week's Font Friday! How cute is Steinweiss Script?! I'm really digging the light version... so curly and girly!

Here's what MyFonts.com says about Steinweiss Script:
Steinweiss Script began its journey towards daylight when Michael Doret was asked by Taschen Publishing to do cover lettering for the huge commemorative edition they were putting together on the work of Alex Steinweiss—“The Inventor of the Modern Album Cover” . The lettering was to be created to appear similar to the famous “Steinweiss Scrawl” the calligraphy that Steinweiss had used on countless album covers.
While designing this piece of lettering, Michael realized that there was great potential for a font that was designed in the spirit of that famous “scrawl”. Through his contacts at Taschen Publishing, he was fortunate enough to be able to contact the Steinweiss family, and get the official Steinweiss approval to proceed with his “Steinweiss Script” project. Michael decided that in addition to giving the font his name as an homage, that he would donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of this font to the man himself: Alex Steinweiss. Read more about the background of Steinweiss Script in Steven Heller’s article in Imprint.

Chronicle Books!!

One of Minted's recent challenges was to design a small folded notecard that had no typographic details and a very limited color palette. Four designs (from over 700) would be chosen by Chronicle Books to be included in a set of stationery to be sold worldwide! Needless to say that was a major carrot to dangle in front of any designer's nose! Well, to make a long story short, MY DESIGN WAS CHOSEN!! I'm insane with excitement! Below is my design Pretty Poppies, as well as the other three chosen designs:

Pretty Poppies by Paper Dahlia

Ballooning by Momo

Crosshatch Confetti by Annie Clark

Spring in Bloom by Kelly Maron Horvath

These designs and others from the Chronicle Books challenge will be sold as personalized stationery on Minted as well! So be on the look out for those! Chronicle Books will debut the stationery set at next year's National Stationery Show. Now I REALLY have to go to NSS, right?
