Minted Holiday 2013: Modish Merry

This is Modish Merry... I just love how it's bold and modern but has a retro 1960's kinda vibe (or at least I think so). And like my other holiday designs, it's available in three colorways and three alternate greetings. There is literally something for everyone at Minted this year!

Minted Holiday 2013 - Modern Peace

I'm very excited to share my holiday designs that will be available exclusively at It's been many months in the making... and as I've said before, so weird to be designing for winter holidays in the Spring and Summer! But here it is... and I am equally excited that Minted has recently begun offering gold and silver foil pressed options! What the heck is it about gold and silver foil that has me weak in the knees? I don't know but I love it.

This week I will be debuting a new design each day! Today I am pleased to introduce "Modern Peace".  It's available in gold and silver foil in addition to white, red, aqua and yellow. The foil pressed cards available here and standard colors here.

Tomorrow is a new day and new design!

Font Friday: Top 10 Favorite Scripts

Doing things a little differently this week... I thought it would be fun to do a Top Ten list of my favorite script typefaces! Keep in mind there so are many more I could have added but I wanted to stick to a small list. I tend to gravitate towards scripts that have plenty of personality and are not too formal, but of course I have loads of formal scripts too (maybe another list!).

So without further ado here is my top ten favorite script fonts:

The Photo Man

I've been an admirer of found photos for a long time, often using them in my personal artwork. For me there is something very compelling about found photos that I can't really put into words other than to say I'm fascinated by them... so when I came across this short film, "The Photo Man" by Ben Kitnick, I immediately understood the connection the subject, Mark Kologi, has with the photos and the people in them.

Take a look at the film, it's pretty wonderful...

And if you're interested in found photos you need to visit the Look At Me, a treasure trove of found photos. Here a few of my favorites...

Personal note: I used a found photo from this site as our holiday card seven years ago (see above). I photoshopped our faces onto the people in the photo. And added our dog in the background.  Everyone loved the card but some people wondered when I had bleached my hair, LOL.

Art Work: Busymockingbird

I'm really enjoying the work of illustrator and graphic artist, Mica Angela Hendricks (aka Busymockingbird). She collaborated with her 4 year old daughter on these wonderful illustrations. So quirky and fun, and kinda creepy too!

Here's what she says about the work:
These are collaborative paintings by my 4-year old daughter and me. I start by quietly drawing a vintage, retro head (which I love doing). Next step: My daughter (who LOVES to draw) hastily snatches my sketchbook from me and draws a body and sometimes additional characters. Later, I go back and add highlights and details in acrylic paint, colored ballpoint pen, and marker. Together, they create a beautiful well as an exercise in patience (on both our parts).
You can purchase her work on Society6... check it out!
